Parents?

I think Feminism had good decades, good ideology and were important to my parent's generation, but this day and age..............feminism is dead.......it was destroyed by conservative women, who I think want to go back to 1500 and old good time for women....Right......We need to steer to another righteous way, without becoming like those women like Ann Coulter/Rice. Most of these right wing proponents and visible anti-feminists are the stereotypical double edged sh*ts who have no clue the way human life works..........It's like helping wheel-chaired one across a highway, and later turns around and spits on your face...........Sec. Rice enjoyed this while at college back in the days.....Look at her right now! What about Coulter? Unmarried, no kids, full of hatred about what great feminists of the past has done for her, and her elk.

HOLY SHIT, that picture is horrible, that is CHILD ABUSE, plain and simple.

Feminism I think has lost it's middle and I am not certain why.

Take a look at our new improved blogroll sometime. Many strong outspoken women there along with the men who feel as they do.

Feminism isn't dead - those idiots are just noisy and Ann Coulter is the embodiment of evil. Sooner or later the pendulum will swing back because decent people will finally have had enough.

I'm certainly not giving up.

At least I can hope.

I'm not sure that feminism is dead, I think it is just changing. Now I've never read Ann Coulter's books, and I try to stay away from watching her on TV because I'm afraid my eyes will fall out or my head will explode. BUT I'll try to outline why/how I think it is changing:

1) Women want to "have it all" - kids, career, husbands, etc.

2) Women are selecting to "go it alone" - having children/adopting without a spouse

3) Women are waiting longer to get married, rather than marrying immediately after college or in their late teens/early twenties.

4) Women are realizing that they don't have to sacrifice their femininity in order to be successful. They can "have it all" and still embrace the fact that they are a woman.

So while there isn't this huge counter-cultural revolution that occurred in our parents' generation, there is still a movement. It is more subtle, I think. As women, we're accepted in the work place (although still at $0.70 to a man's $1.00), we're accepted in colleges, we're accepted in most professions (military combat excluded)... so we've won a lot of the battles already, thanks to the women who came before us. And now, we just want more.

Does that make sense? This is making my brain churn with a possible future post...

I have never been a fan of Ann Coulter, but she did write an article recently that I must admit I agreed wholeheartedly: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=49818

I have never really agreed with some of the ideas of true feminism, but I can't really say that I am anti-feminism as well. I'm somewhere in the middle I think, and am more of a progressive feminist, if such a thing exists.

That picture of those kids at McDonald's is disgusting. It's not that I abhor obesity, but as someone above stated, it's just abuse when it comes to those poor children.

Dem, I think Lauren is onto something. Feminism doesn't seem so apparent because much of those ideas and beliefs have now become mainstream. I think the word "feminism" is making a comeback, though. Many of my students are using it again to describe themselves. I think there are women out there who would never call themselves feminists yet have incorporated the beliefs of feminism into their daily lives. Every time we go to work, vote, own property in our own names, get our own credit card, assume responsibility for our children, etc., we are practicing feminism.

There is nothing sincere about Ann Coulter. She's a ho for the publicity, for the money. God knows what she really believes, if it's anything at all.

And, yep, Granny knows a few good feminists, as her blogroll will show. Granny is one of my very favorite feminists and HUMANS in general.
