Just like how the GOP wants to blame Kerry for a joke that was meant for Bush, Tyson wants just to eat our children. Nov 7 is the day.
Have U heard Bush government is spending $50 million to try to convince I and all the 20-somethings to not have sex! Yes, and Yes that is 50 mil, to stop me having my groove one.......This is what happens when U try to force others on your religious ideas.
Update: I'm reader of history, and one my all-time liberal was JFK. Here are few things he said about being liberal, which i hope the Demacratic Party have to follow. I know, that DNC are more center left party, and not a liberal party.
....I believe in human dignity as the source of national purpose, in human liberty as the source of national action, in the human heart as the source of national compassion, and in the human mind as the source of our invention and our ideas. It is, I believe, the faith in our fellow citizens as individuals and as people that lies at the heart of the liberal faith. For liberalism is not so much a party creed or set of fixed platform promises as it is an attitude of mind and heart, a faith in man's ability through the experiences of his reason and judgment to increase for himself and his fellow men the amount of justice and freedom and brotherhood which all human life deserves. JOHN F. KENNEDY.

Yeah, JFK was impressive. I've always been moved by the sheer guts it took to inspire the Apollo program - in my humble opinion, the best thing this nation has accomplished.
Liberty, individual innovation, ideas, etc. are not conservative or liberal ideals. They are things that parties - both of them - are threatened by because they are at the heart of Democracy. This year anyone concerned with those things should vote for Democrats, not for the sake of the Democratic party but for the sake of divided government. The pendulum needs to swing the other way.
bman.....lol nice one, now Kennedy was conservative! I wouldn't tell U to read history, but liberty and individual power has been the core base that makes Liberalism. Just think about the civil war, vietnam war which was for by liberal government, but at the end liberals stood and opposed it, it was liberals who are for the goodness that comes from "THE" the "PERSON", lets not ignore history as many conservatives are doing these days. Conservatism in the core has religious background to it, and we know what religion and freedom of the individual are about, don't we?
James...I agree Kennedy was the main man, and one of the greats. On the other issue, if we ignore the two parties of the US, and look history in last 100 years between conservatism as awhole and liberalism through out the world, which group stood for the little man and the powerless is/was the liberals. In between, I have said many times the Dems are not a liberal party, but looking at the two parties they are much better than the GOP of today.
From the dictionary...
Liberal: 1) Favoring progress or reform. 2) Free from prejudice, tolerant. 3) Characterized by generosity. 4) Ample or abundant.
I think there are liberal qualities that are shared by all parties, whether they are Democrats, Republicans or Independents. Democrats tend to have all of the characteristics above, not necessarily shared by the majority of those from other parties.
For example, you can't really say that a hardcore Christian Conservative is not prejudiced if s/he is against gay marriage. That, to me, is blatant prejudice because it is singling out one group of people as unworthy of enjoying the same liberties as their heterosexual counterparts enjoy. And as we know, Christian Conservatives tend to lean towards the Republicans.
As James said, it is time for the pendulum to swing back towards the middle, which I believe it will do in this upcoming election. But then again, we have to keep in mind that it was a majority who put our leadership in their positions in the first place.... so complaining is useless if we were responsible for putting poor leadership in positions of power in the first place.
Sorry for the rant! JFK was the bomb.
Hey Dem,
"For liberalism is not so much a party creed or set of fixed platform promises as it is an attitude of mind and heart, a faith in man's ability through the experiences of his reason and judgment to increase for himself and his fellow men the amount of justice and freedom and brotherhood which all human life deserves."
----- I love that line. The issue is the interpretation...
Lauren & Roket.....Let me take the debate into another angle, and to third parties! I have no problem, if being in the middle means your votes are shared by the two major parties Dems or GOP!
But if in the "middle" is that you don't like both two large parties, in this country, it means GOP will always keep power.
Here in MN, we have large population of greens/ind/others who are large voting bloc and call themselves Indies, than other states. I think voting for these groups, makes easy for many GOP officials to get elected in the most progressive state in the country. Votes for indies, just take votes away from progressive officials. This is just common sense, if there's s close vote, conservatives will always vote for GOP, where these independents take votes away from liberals.
Lauren...Keep them coming. Nothing is rant here.
Rocket I like that line 2.
