We have failed!!
Talking Point:
Every men and women living with AIDS, my heart goes out to you, where ever U may be. Thursday 1 December is World Aids Day, I'm deeply troubled by it and I believe there should be a new approach to how AIDS can be controlled. Here in the states and in the west in general we don't have a good look on how AIDS is the new genocide for milions of people. We only worry when it comes to our shores. We even treat those living with the desease as outcasts. Some may say why help some one who didn't take care of himself/herself! That's must sh*tful garbage to say, those that are already sick no matter how they get to be sick must always have our support and help. I am particularly concerned with their children orphaned as the result of losing their parents through HIV/AIDS. Latest UN estimates are that there almost 40 million people infectes with HIV worldwide, and mojority of them live in Africa. 40 million, my God.

I read this article in the paper yesterday that just made my heart sick:
http://www.financialexpress-bd.com/index3.asp?cnd=12/2/2005§ion_id=4&newsid=8602&spcl=no
People in different parts of the world have not heard of AIDS. Amazing, isn't it? It just make my heart hurt so much to read of this.
The beach picture looks idyllic. I would love to be there as well
Wow, how much snow did you get? Wish I was on a beach right now...
It is unfathomable to think that there are people who do not know what AIDS is or what the disease can do to the body, soul and spirit of those that it infects. And can you imagine if you were one of those 40 million who has AIDS?
My heart goes out to those who have AIDS, who have been affected in some way by the disease. Think of all the people who have been affected by AIDS - or any incurable disease for that matter. I bet if we added up all the people who have AIDS, cancer and heart disease together, the number of people living with an illness would outnumber healthy people.
Think about how it would be if you found out you had some incurable disease that you could have prevented, protected yourself against. You can do certain things to minimize your risk of cancer (sunscreen, no smoking, etc.) But you can completely protect yourself from getting AIDS or any STI. I think that would definitely be worse, the blame that I'd place upon myself to know that I could've done something...but didn't.
I suppose we should all look at finding a cure in the same way. To know that we could have done something to prevent it. Or cure it.
In regards to AIDS, the scary thing is most pharmecutical companies are more interested in producing medicines that manage the disease rather than finding a cure. It hurts their industry and many of them are more concerned with their bottom line than the lives of those dying.
The whole thing is disturbing if you ask me.
AIDS: how can a country that is suppose to be free not be doing more for the people dying research is great but what are they researching they need to hurry people are dying.
We are going down in to the teen's when you live in the south you except some bad weather but I am frezzing and we don't even have snow.
Thanks for your comments ladies...
Nova, that's moving letter to the editor...."Fighting AIDS"..
Lauren, we got alot.....All day today the temp was around 0.
Janifer, the pharmecutical industry is much responsible on the raise of AIDS and lack of finding final solution....They make billions of dollars on these sub-saharan African Nations and they will never stop doing this...
SoapO, your right we should worry about research when we first try to help those we can right now...it aint happening...
AIDS isn't even discussed here in Norway. World AIDS day - and not a single word uttered on the news (as far as I know - and I did watch the news). Tragic!
I know there's a lot of people living with the disease also here, but where they are, what kind of care they recieve etc I have no idea.
I remember well that we were told about AIDS in school some 15 years ago, and we were thaught AIDS can be spread through all bodily fluids. In theory it meant that if someone with AIDS/HIV positive sneezed and we had an open wound, we could get AIDS too. We were scared to death! Not much research had been done then, and luckily thay soon found out that this was wrong. But I so well remember the feeling.
I'd rather be in minnesota actually... I absolutely LOVE the snow!
Nerdine, Not me I hate cold weather and snow......
