Harsh realities....
(♥?•.̧ (♥?•.Hope Sunday is going good for U alļ.•♥?)̧.•♥?)
Gotta wait the journal for a while......
Have U seen the new immigration ( H.R. 4437) law? Read. Here, Here, WTF. Republicans are looking to another winning issue, and they think this is it. The war on immigration. President Bush, and his right-winguts use fear as a tool, and this is another way. Making felony to be illegal immigrant in the US!!!! Are they kidding me! Just another way to divide, and rule. Lets hope this doesn't pass the senate, it already did the house. Shuuut.
I mentioned the "Labor issues" in France on my last post. First, I'm always with labor, and will always be, here or abroad. March 28, French cities will come to stand-still. Unions are planning mass rallies.
I had to work last night, but hey I'm back. One change I experienced last few weeks is me getting out of my ex, I dunno know why, it took me longer than I thought. Telling self, she was it, and now not it, was hard to over come......I'm on track.......

I'm not sure how to feel about illegal immigration.
On the one hand I'm not fond of illegals sneaking into America and (among other things) screwing with our economy by working for less than minimum wage.
On the other hand I feel sorry for people living in destitute poverty and I enjoy watching their presence cause the GOP to suffer.
I think these massive protests may mark the beginning of somthing.
But what I don't know.
We need to manage illegal immigration. We definitely need the immigrants, but we also need to manage the influx so as to not overwhelm local communities social services, especially in the South.
CD no one is happy about people coming here without being granted, but what I have problem is criminalize those who are here already.
Rocket.....They have already.
IMHO if illegals have lived here for ten years, have commited no crime have no offspring guilty of felonies, and have a steady job I don't see anything wrong with leting them become citizens.
I have no doubt many people would see this criteria though as to harsh.
CD, I agree. Even though it wouldn't be that easy.
On track good to hear.
Illegal immigration ey? It's funny just coz i look different ppl assume that i magically came here to Australia on a boat and was "illegal". Rude! heheh I came here on a plane and was sick half the way.
I think if ppl need the help and immigrating is the only way out of their harsh surrondings then yeah i dont mind them coming over but what i don't like is them in return treatin the country like shiate and not giving a damn about who knows it! Oh well tada keep tracking...
dem,
"they have already" -- Are you kidding me? Go down to San Diego and Texas and ask those folks if the US is managing illegal immigration.
We need to build a huge "wall" (doesn't have to be an actual wall, technology and man power could take care of it) across the Mexican border and grant everyone here citizenship, as long as they are not a criminal.
Then slowly grant access as we need it via some program.
Like CD, I'm pretty torn on the issue of illegal immigration. I share his concern for the destitute poverty that illegal immigrants suffer because they work for so little. At the same time, many illegal immigrants who live the slum life have escaped a worse fate in their own countries.
I agree that the people who aid illegal immigrants aren't actually doing anyone a favor. By hiring an illegal immigrant and paying them under the table, you're doing more harm then good. You're keeping that immigrant in a cycle of poverty where they can never get ahead, or realize their American Dream. You're also depriving your federal, state and local government of income taxes, etc. that make it possible for vital services to exist. These taxes are essential to maintaining order and the American way of life, despite being unpopular.
The people who aid illegal immigrants may feel that they are being a Good Samaritan. Really, they are breaking the law and they are limiting the success that person can achieve. They may just want to hire an illegal to get ahead and maintain higher profit margins for their business - also breaking the law, and a short-term solution that fails to benefit anyone.
Though I think I might agree with the theoretical purpose of this bill - which is to control illegal immigration - I do feel it is a little harsh. At the same time, our more traditional methods of immigration control haven't worked. Maybe it is time to take a hard line. I hope that there is a happy medium, when it comes to such a divisive issue, there probably isn't.
Regardless, the official who are putting this bill into motion were elected to their positions. They must represent some percentage of their constituencies.
Rocket.....manage! As for them not to appear as criminals those who are already here. Get it, what I'm talking about when I say, we already some how manage how they are dealt with when they are here.
If it comes to building wall, fine with me.
Lauren....as I said many times, I'm labor supporter, and anyone who aids these immigrants should face the law. As U said, they ain't helping them. Even those elected officials, who have proposed this, are backed by the farmers, industries who hire these illegals. The truth is that they want cheap labor which has been dragging down the pay for rest of Americans, and having no stronger labor unions to fight this, just makes the situation more worse.
Hey Dem, what the hell happened to our Hockey Team, horribly disappointiung.
Man that was bad. Both the ladies, and the guys lost. The guys lost to Holy Cros(have U seen the startribune headline (Holy Cross-Holy Cow)lol. It's the worst lose of any #1 team ever. I watched both games, and many students at the U arent happy about it.....
For the ladies, they went to the final, which is ok, even though losing to the cheese wasn't that good...
Marie thanks.........
Australia is also dealing with this.....
U look different, so Australians think different of U?
Lately Australia as one of the most open societies in the world, has been heading to that way, dunno why. Why is that the case, "that they don't mix with others" is that it?
um, "as long they aren't criminal"
by coming here illegally aren't they criminal? Just asking.
that being said, I'm not sure how I feel about immigration, I work with 40% of my caseload being undocumented citizens (fancy talk for illegals) and most of them are working. They're not working for under minimum wage, they're working at the same wages as the citizens, and legal immigrants. The one difference is that they are paid in cash, and so they don't pay taxes on the money they make, but they are eligible to receive *some* benefits that are paid out of tax dollars.
I mean really, I know how this sounds, but if you want to come to America badly enough, why wouldn't you just go the legal route? Because it is easier to come in illegally? Because you understand the loop holes? Because you're lazy? Because you don't care? I don't get it...
And yeah, Dawn, if you're breaking the law, you're a criminal. Entering the US illegally is a crime. Ergo...
Dawn, as I said, as long as they aren't criminals the US should welcome them. This is an election issue that the repucks are trying to gain some votes. We had laws on immigration for how long? For ever, but no one has enforced them. Why? I think that should be the answer. Why not have national guard in the border? U see this is just votes.
Lauren.......I agree. What I don't like about H.R. 4437 is that, by government not enforcing the laws, shouldn't only be put on the feet of the immigrants. If today, the government doesn't want immigrants or want to stop the border crossing, and really go after those who hire them, they could do it in heart beat. And we wouldn't have any immingration problem.
I was listening to something on NPR awhile back, and law enforcement officials from some of the states bordering Mexico were talking how they're overwhelmed with crime down there because of the massive influx of illegal immigrants. Sounded very frustrating. So, the thing is not to create more problems until we can sort out the ones we have. I think legal immigration is good for us, though.
Like you, Dem, I tend to side with labor. Only makes sense.
"I think legal immigration is good for us"
I'm by product of it.....
JB......My family is deeply rooted with labor, and I plan to be one....Good to hear you as well
What wories me is the idea of people who "aid" illegals being declared fellons.
can you imagine how many soup kitchens and churches could suffer from crap like that?
it also fines people who unknowingly hire illegals. ie someone using a fake id gets a job, that employer gets in trouble.
dem, i was refferring to allowing those who are already here to say as long as they aren't criminals. if they're already here, and illegal, they're criminals. that's what i was saying, sorry if i didn't read well enough or was unclear.
CD....I'm with U....if this passes the senate, more worse issues will arise...
dawnmarie.......I agree.
What I don't want is to have a wedge divide between communities...
Why not hold Mexico to account letting their people across the border? Why not build wall? All these are options that the government can do, but as always they are farting.....to get few votes....that's all.......
holding mexico accountable is a fantastic idea. laruen, too, makes good points, what are the reasons that they come illegally? address those issues, and maybe the problem will solve itself.

Holding Mexico should always include any new immigration laws. For the life of me, I can't understand why the government doesn't go after the government of Mexico? Cut the ties, do something, and tomorrow immigration is solved. They do now how to deal with their people, see how they deal with those from central america who cross their border! They send them back....Very simple.
My problem with the H.R. 4437, is that, it has more to do with politics rather finding final any concrete work on immigration. No nation want to be overrun by illegal immigrants, why not come out and say so. Have U seen where Bush was today, yes U guessed, giving nationality to new immigrants most of them illegal immigrants from Mexico!!!!
A large number of undoc's come from mexico, but is that the only place? other nations need to be held accountable too.
Dawnmarie....c'mon now...its Mexico where all these illegals are coming from....and its their border where even the few non-Mexicans are getting into here...I will put the whole blame on them...
Yes we are immigrant nation, i'm living proof, but Mexico has to do some thing about this open door policy. I'm for immigration, but rules are rules, the government has to enforce them without being racial as the GOP are doing in this law. Thanks God, Sen. kennedy, and others stood and rejected....
I was really only thinking about cuba. most of our hmong, laoatian, somali, etc clients are here legally.
but the population of illegals in south florida is strongly cuban, and we've already severed ties with them, so how well would it work for mexico?
dawnmarie...your right the Cubans make up large illegals in Florida....
When the GOP talks about illegals taking our jobs, they never mean the Cubans, they enjoy support from right wing America, since they hate Castro more....all the time, illegals are meant for Mexicans......
How did your day go? Just came from West Bank at U....time to enjoy the weather...
Best time in MN is spring time...me thinks....I really enjoy spring.....summer too hot for me..
I was over by the U today, my bank is on university. closest one on my way home, and Nick and I wook a long walk. it was a beautiful day.
While I love spring, I'd be hard pressed to choose between spring and fall. and I do love me some snow too.
not a summer fan, but it's nice for a short time.
For me, fall is good, only the first few weeks....after that....I really feel like moving-out this state...Lol...
